Fågeltofta

The small village of Fågeltofta is located on road 19 between Ystad and Kristianstad. Until 1867, the village was much larger and consisted of as many as 17 farms and a number of gatehouses, but a devastating crop failure forced the farms to move to the estate. Kronovalls forest parcels where farmers became crofters. Two older schools clearly show that the village was once of great importance. The beautiful avenue leading from the village to Kronovall Castle is still magnificent.

Around Kronovall Castle there are beautiful beech forests and meadows with very rich flora and fauna.
The name Fågeltofta is a combination of the proper name Fughl and toft, which equals empty.
Although Fågeltofta can be said to lie on the border between rice-growing and woodland areas, the dominant character is typical estate land. The Store Vång pasture offers rich flora and fauna, with red deer and wood frogs.

At one time, all the farms were owned by Kronovall.
The houses in the village are built in different periods, from the 19th century, from the early 20th century, but also houses built in both the 50s and 70s. There are a couple of properties in the village with active businesses, including toilet hire, a parish hall and a spa.
Proximity to Bondrumsgården, Kronovalls and Christinehof Castle as well as the monasteries at Mariavall mean that many visitors come to Fågeltofta, especially in summer.

The nearest school is in Brösarp, around a mile to the north, but the distance to the schools in the centre Tomelilla is not much bigger. If you want to cross the municipal border, the distance to St Olof which also has schools less than a mile away. Bus links are available, not least thanks to the proximity of route 19.
