It is not known how long Skillinge has been a fishing village, but it has probably been since the Migration Period 400-800 years e.Kr. The name Skiellinge may derive from the form Skedhlinge, where sked(e), meaning boundary, can refer to the community's boundary in the east and west of two streams.

The fishing village is alive all year round, there is a lot to offer: restaurants, a ship's shop, a grocery store, a preschool, a retirement home, a b&b, Skillinge theatre and Sparrisgården – these are just a few examples. Marina, the sea and magnificent nature within walking distance. Pure white sandy beaches within cycling distance.

Skillinge is the fishing village where much still revolves around the harbour. There is a shipyard, a harbour restaurant, a boat club and a maritime museum (read more about the museum here). The buildings in Skillinge are reminiscent of the proud seafaring of the past with large captain's farms, but also small houses in narrow trees, apartment blocks and a number of newer villas in the southwest. Near the harbor is the newly built Jeppas äng with exciting architecture.

Many artists live in Skillinge and the surrounding area, which attracts large crowds of visitors to the community, not least at Easter time. Bus connections to Simrishamn, Ystad and Hammenhög are available in Skillinge. The distance to Simrishamn is around a mile.

And you: They say you live at Skillinge, at Brantevik, at Kivik, etc. This is due to the fact that the fishing villages were originally temporary camps. They set up camp, stayed at the camp, then moved on when the fishing season was over. This expression has persisted for centuries.
