On September 11-19, 2021, the second round of the September exhibition will be held, where three of Österlen's leading galleries highlight around 40 specially selected artists during a late summer week.
A novelty is that the week begins with a panel discussion at Gårdens Vedugn in Simrishamn on September 6 at 10-12 with the title "The September Exhibition – over a cup of coffee. A conversation about art and Österlen" with Ýrr Jonasdóttir, director of Ystad Art Museum, and artists selected by her.

Thomas Wallner
Founded in Malmö in 1974, it quickly gained a reputation for being one of the most interesting galleries focusing on young Scandinavian artists. Since 2010, the gallery has been located in Simris in Österlen with 350 square meters of fantastic exhibition space. One of the country's most important galleries for contemporary art.
RIKSTOLVAN is run by Bea Tigerhielm and Staffan Julén, and offers a mix of cutting-edge artists in the region and the international art arena. Here, art and conversation cross the fields between genres and disciplines to open and fill the gap between technology, art and science.
A meeting place for Swedish and international contemporary art in Österlen. Olseröds Konsthall opened in 2016 and has become one of the leading exhibition venues in Skåne. Above all, relevant art and design, but also handicrafts coexist in fruitful encounters. Axel and Anette Mörner run the business in the beautiful enclosed farm at Olserödsvägen 52.
It is well known that Österlen, with its special light, has always had a strong attraction for artists. And not surprisingly, it was also here that the world's first art tour was born in 1968 when eleven artists joined forces and opened their studios to the art public.
2020.
Now, more than 50 years later, it is once again time for a brand new unique art event to see the light of the world here in Österlen when four of our leading galleries open the doors to their favorite artists' studios in Österlen.
Galleri Thomas Wallner, Olseröds Konsthall, Rikstolvan and Galleri CH have selected 10 artists each of the most significant artists with activities here in Österlen. One work by each artist will be exhibited at each gallery and during the exhibition period 19 – 27 September, these artists will also open up their own studios for the art audience to visit.
"As far as I know, this is the first time in Sweden, or abroad for that matter, that an exhibition has been held in this way," says Thomas Wallner, one of the initiators behind the exhibition.

– We thought it was time to anchor the flag of art in Österlen, says Christian Esbjörnsson at Destination Österlen. So during a lunch at GÅRDENS in Simrishamn, when we discussed another Österlen art project with Thomas Wallner, it took us about that long for us to jump on Tomas' idea of a September exhibition, Christian continues.
Österlen's lifestyle attracts the modern artist.
One might think that the requirement that the artists not only should be active here in Österlen but also commit to opening up their studios to visitors would make it a challenge for the galleries to find 10 artists each. But the challenge has rather been to limit yourself to just 10 pieces. That, if anything, shows that Österlen's attraction to artists is at least as strong as before. "Today, it's not just the light that is the reason why artists come to Österlen. Nowadays, they also come here for a lifestyle that suits the modern artist," concludes Thomas.
Both the participating galleries and the artists' studios will be open daily from 12 noon to 5 p.m. during the nine days of the September exhibition, 19 – 27/9.
