Online lecture with dialect and place-name researcher Mathias Strandberg: Scanian through the centuries

22 May at 19:00 - 20:30

Free

Where did the Scanian language come from, and what does Skåne's Danish past have to do with it? And how far back in time can we trace Scanian as a dialect?

When the Scanian languages became the subject of systematic studies in the 19th and 20th centuries, we encountered a richly divided dialect geography with major differences between the different areas of the province.

But despite this diversity - and despite the fact that it is a transitional area - there are some salient features that clearly distinguish Skånemålen from its neighbouring dialects in southern Sweden, and on the Danish islands.

Mathias works at the Institute for Language and Folklore. Feel free to ask him questions in the chat!

The lecture will be given here on our Facebook page at 19:00 on Wednesday 22 May. Welcome to the event!
