Spear village

Almost in the middle of Tomelilla municipality, about six kilometers northeast of the central town, on the road to Onslunda, lies Spjutstorp. The surroundings are open, hilly farmland. Once upon a time, the railroad tracks ended up close to the old church village with its well-preserved old-fashioned character where street houses and farms, together with station houses and newer residential buildings, make up today's active village.

In 1936, Spjutstorp was the site of Sweden's first open-air swimming pool with a swimming school, an establishment that still attracts many exercisers, bathing enthusiasts and celebrities in the summer. The pool is next to the sports field where the very successful association Spjutstorps IF has become something of a nursery for football talents, both girls and boys.

In Spjutstorp there is a lot that revolves around music and dance. During a number of summer evenings, Bäckavallen's dance rotunda invites you to dance. Motor enthusiasts, especially motorcyclists, also gather here throughout the year. The village is also home to the traditional Spjutstorp Badorkester, which travels around Österlen and entertains. Almost every year the local revue Spjutstorpsrevyn draws large crowds of laughing people to its performances in the spring.
There is evidence to suggest that people have lived in Spjutstorp since Viking times.

Like so many other villages, Spjutstorp lost its size and importance when the change of ownership was implemented, but with the railway Spjutstorp developed into a station community with increased services. At the church, which was inaugurated in 1869, there is a hostel and a popular campsite. In the village there is a leisure center, car sales, kennel, dog boarding, construction market, etc.

Today the village has around 200 inhabitants. The nearest primary school year F-6 is in Onslunda.
The nearest travel center from where you can go by bus and train is in Tomelilla. It takes 27 minutes by train to Ystad and 19 minutes to Simrishamn.

The Skåne Express between Ystad and Kristianstad stops at highway 19 two kilometers northwest of Spjutstorp, 35 minutes to Ystad and about an hour to Kristianstad. The Skåne Express between Lund and Malmö stops in Lunnarp, five kilometers south of Spjutstorp. By regional bus you can get to O in five minutes or to Tomelilla in ten minutes.
