Övraby

Higher than its twin village Nedraby, Övraby is slightly larger and a shining example of an old, genuine Scanian village. Övraby lies on the heights above the Nybroån valley and the Örupsdalen valley. The village is dominated by the 12th century church in Romanesque style. There are some details in the construction of the church that indicate that the church may have been built in the middle of the 12th century, making it one of the oldest in the Nordic region.

Other dominant features of the summertime village are the Övrabyborg estate and Övraby Mill, a stone's throw to the south. Övraby Mölla is a well-preserved Dutch mill, built in 1887. The mill is still in working order and a number of times a year the Övraby Mölla Association organizes so-called mill days when the mill is put into use, which attracts many interested parties. The environment with the mill and miller's residence is genuinely characteristic.

Övrabyborg was founded in the 18th century by merging several different homesteads in the village. Today, Övraby offers a rather impressive range of activities, where the parish house is the place for many different kinds of meetings. This is where the village's farmers, gardeners, craftsmen, artists and media people meet.

The nearest major town with services of various kinds such as a travel center, school and childcare and nursing home is the central town of Tomelilla, just under three kilometers straight north. There are bus connections in Övraby towards Bollerup as well as towards Ystad.
