Karakås

North of Stenshuvud National Park is Karakås (the emphasis in the place name should be on the last syllable). In Karakås there are spacious parking spaces for those who want to visit Stenshuvud from the north. Otherwise, Karakås is mainly a place you visit to see Äpplet's house and shop in Kivik's muster factory shop.

The pioneer in fruit-growing circles was undoubtedly Henrik Åkesson, and the Åkesson family still owns what everyone once called 'Musteriet'. The fact that fruit growing is so well suited here is due to the climate conditions. The flowering of the fruit trees is held back by the proximity of the cold sea in the spring and the long mild autumn makes the ripening period long.

Along the road to Karakås, mainly to the east of the road, are a number of large villas, a few farms and, as a focal point, the Musteriet with its factory and shop. The facility Äpplets hus with the popular restaurant Kärnhuset attracts many visitors. Here you will find everything worth knowing about fruit and fruit growing. All the apple varieties in a well-kept demonstration garden are like a living library.

Äpplets hus organizes cider tastings, shows the history of the apple, gives lectures and offers musical entertainment. West of Karakås is the famous arboretum at Kiviks Äsperöd. The nearest major town with services such as schools, retirement homes, shops, etc. is Kivik, one and a half kilometers to the north.

The road there passes a number of smaller ship sets, the beautiful sports facility Solevi where Kiviks AIF is housed, but also past Sågmöllan's coffee house and Bredarör, or Kiviksgraven or Kungagraven as many call it.
