Simrishamn 900 years

The exhibition reflects the 900-year history of the place from many different perspectives - as a herring town, merchant town and tourist town. In the exhibition room on the second floor, the town is spread out between the countryside to the west and the sea to the east. Here you can meet the town's inhabitants and learn more about its events and development through objects, texts and films. The themes depicted are Fishing and Shipping, Church and Power, War and Disasters, Trade and Merchants, Children and Youth, Crafts and Industry, Entertainment and Tourism. The time perspective is the 1100s to the 1900s. Free admission.

Discover with Nim and Nälla

Together with illustrator Jenny Hargne, we have created a children's trail for the exhibition Simrishamn 900 years. The children can follow the cat-inspired characters Nim and Nälla through the exhibition. Nim is patient and likes to tell stories. Nälla likes mischief and has dressed up as a seagull. Through illustrations, short texts, arts and crafts, children are encouraged to take part in the exhibition and discover the history of Simrishamn. The ambition is to stimulate curiosity and the desire for knowledge. The target group is children 4 - 10 years old. Free admission.

Österlenian essences

It is perhaps not surprising that the mythical landscape of southern Skåne has given rise to its own legends and creatures. From the wooded, lush hills at Stenshuvud to the barren fishing villages and quietly resting fields, it is easy to understand how different senses and fantasies can be triggered. Do you dare to follow Gloson? Animated film and fairy tales for both young and old about some of our Eastern European creatures. The film is shown in our cinema on the first floor. Free admission.

A702 - instead of giving up

Kay W Andersson is a local visual artist who wants to translate life's journey into painting and other recycled art. With a background as a tattoo artist, graphic designer and graffiti artist, he now tries his hand at yet another medium of expression. The exhibition includes paintings, which illustrate the nature of the mind, and decorated objects. The exhibition runs until 11/5.

Spinning time

Fourteen artists came to Österlen to spend four days in four places around Simrishamn. Thus began the journey around the places, relationships and the material wool. The project is made by the network Fiber Art Sweden in collaboration with Österlens Museum, Gislövs Smidesmuseum and byagille, Tommarps Ullspinneri, sheep-owner Matilda Pyk and with support from Region Skåne and the Swedish Arts Council. The exhibition opens 18/5 and runs until 20/6.

Björkegrenska shipping office

A mini museum in Björkegrenska gården, Storgatan 22, Simrishamn.
Österlen Museum has restored the old Björkgrenska shipping office, as it probably looked in the 1880s during the time of shipowner Johan Daniel Björkegren. The shipping business began in the late 1830s with shipping along the coasts of the Baltic Sea. Gradually, the business expanded to Europe and further across the Atlantic to South and North America. The restoration of the shipping office has been done in collaboration with the Herrlinska Foundation and the Old Cimbrishamn Association, with funding from the Swedish National Heritage Board. The shipping office is open to visitors on request, see the museum shop. Free admission.

Harvesting rainwater

"Harvesting Rainwater" is an installation in the museum's garden created together with Eva Mathiasson, Sophia Callmer and Susanna Widlundh. It shows how rainwater can be collected, stored and used to create sustainable gardens and a better environment for ourselves and future generations. In collaboration with Samhällsbyggnadsförvaltningen Gata & Park and with funding from Sparbanken Syd. During the year, more installations will be displayed in the museum garden. Free entrance.
