Mälarhusen

Time and silence. Mälarhusen is one of the really well-known holiday villages that grew up near the famous sandy beaches and dune landscape between Kyhl and Löderup beaches. Today, many of the small houses in the village have been restored and become picturesque little gems.

When seaside tourism really took off, Mälarhusen flourished and right next to the beach was the very popular Mälarhusen restaurant, an institution for dancing and parties until it was demolished in the 1990s. Mälarhusen also had a country store for a long time.

The beach is thus the major attraction in Mälarhusen, but nature in general offers variety and rich experiences. There is an elk population, but also other hoofed animals. There are large birds of prey and the flora is very interesting. Many people like to walk along the sea. Many birdwatchers visit Mälarhusen. Several of the areas along the sea are nature conservation areas.

The nearest major town with a school, retirement home, shops, stores, etc. is Borrby, about half a mile inland. There are bus connections via the coastal road to both Simrishamn and Ystad, both cities about two miles east and west of Mälarhusen.
