County town

Komstad may be a rather small village, located one kilometer west of Stiby/Gärsnäs along the road to Onslunda. You take the exit from highway 11 just west of Stiby church. Komstad is a name that is mentioned in several different contexts.

Komstad limestone has been quarried for many, many years. There is evidence that the industry was already operating in the 12th century. Limestone from Komstad can be found in many houses, as floor or wall material. There is Komstad limestone in Lund Cathedral, in St. Paul's Church in Malmö, in the Malmö Opera, but many people probably associate Komstad limestone with countless tombstones, where the gray or black-gray limestone has come into its own. Nowadays the quarries are water-filled.

The old water mill at Komstadmölla, with the river still rushing in under part of the large mill yard which, in addition to agriculture with a vintage tractor exhibition, also offers B&Bs and art exhibitions, attracts many visitors. In many homes in Österlen there are one or more paintings signed by master painter Nils Olsson Komstad, a very popular so-called "goose painter", who was born in the 1850s and who painted lots of "50th birthday presents".

The village is located in hilly terrain. Along the road towards Ö. Vemmerlöv the view is wide, including towards Stiby church. East of the road past Listarum is Hivlegårdarna, where the landscape is typically small-scale, with small patches of fields, stone fences, bushes and groves of trees, a landscape type that guarantees rich flora and fauna. The distance to the popular hiking areas around the Gyllebosjön nature reserve is short.

The nearest major town with services such as a school, retirement home, medical center, shops, etc. is Gärsnäs, just under two kilometers to the southeast. There are bus and train connections from Gärsnäs.
