South of Skillinge, close to the rocky beach is Örnahusen. The buildings are located on both sides of the coastal road.
Örnahusen was once a fishing village with some forty fishermen's cottages and outbuildings, located so close to the sea that in 1872, during the terrible November storm, they were all washed out to sea.
Örnahusen has never had a proper harbour. The small shoals and boulders that lie a little way out from the shore have been joined by a stone jetty and have served as shelter and additional space. Much of the charm of the old community has been preserved, but today it is not skilled seafarers who live here. The whole area is now much sought after and new building is underway. Many of the old houses have been restored and modernised. Part-time residents live here, but also many year-round residents.
Two kilometres south of the village are beautiful chalky white and mile-long Kyhls beach, the first venue in the long sandy beach area that attracts so many bathers, but also birdwatchers and walkers.
The buildings are mixed and in many properties there are activities of various kinds, crafts and arts and crafts.
Broadband and other modern conveniences have enabled many to move here to the idyll and take their professional activities with them. The entrepreneurs' association has many active members. Community life is lively. Skillinge IF has significant football activities for both boys and girls and in 2010 will inaugurate Österlen's first artificial grass facility.
The nearest major town is Skillinge one kilometre north along the coast road. There is a grocery store, ship's store, restaurants, chapel, kiosk, maritime museum, theatre, school, childcare and nursing home.
