Bondrum

When travelling on highway 19 just north of Fågeltofta we see in the slope, west of the road, the exciting four-length half-timbered farm Bondrumsgården, which once ended up on the front pages of the whole country.

Skånegården, the so-called Albogården, at Skansen had burned down and the then manager Nils Erik Baehrendtz searched high and low for a Skånegården that could replace it. He had seen Bondrumsgården and was determined to have it moved to Stockholm. A huge public outcry erupted and the local history society, with the support of many interested parties, managed to keep the 18th century farm in the village. The farm is in authentic condition and even the old garden, the herb garden, is in its original state. Every year, many people visit the old gem of the village, which otherwise consists of residential buildings built in the 19th century, a number of houses from around 1900 and houses from the 1920s and 30s. Some properties were built in the 1970s and the village has also expanded slightly in recent years. Along the old village street, the houses are close together on both sides of the street, the oldest right next to the street, while the slightly newer ones are set back on their respective plots.

Nursery trees and lush gardens beautifully border the surrounding farmland. In the neighbouring village Fågeltofta we find a church whose oldest parts date from the 12th century. A beautiful avenue leads eastwards from Fågeltofta to Kronovall Castle, nowadays best known as a hotel with a high-class restaurant and as the base for Åkesson's Wine House. The magnificent boxwood maze in the castle garden also attracts many visitors. Every year there are many wedding festivities that take place at Kronovall.

Mariavall, just north of Bondrum, is the address of two Benedictine monasteries, the Convent of the Virgin Mary and the Monastery of St Benedict. Many people go to the two monasteries for dialogue and retreat.
The nearest larger communities with shops, schools and other services are Lövestad in the west and St Olof in the east. Bondrum is located in Tomelilla municipality and the centre is just over a mile away.
