Bollerup

Seven kilometres south-east of TomelillaIn the centre of the fertile, but by no means pancake-flat plain lies Bollerup, a village where old meets new in a most striking way. About the same age as Glimmingehus, i.e. built towards the end of the 15th century, is Bollerup Castle, restored to its original condition in the 1940s. Not far from Bollerup is also Tosterup Castle.

The country road through Bollerup winds gently between old and much newer buildings. Here you can meet horses, ducks and most likely young students all year round. Agriculture has always played a major role in Bollerup and when the mayor of Ystad, Tage Ludvig Sylvan, bought the estate after the death of Carl XIV Johan, he was determined that Bollerup should become an agricultural institute. Since 1903, Bollerup has operated as an agricultural school. Today, more than 300 students attend Bollerup's Naturbruksgymnasium, a very popular boarding school, a paradise for horse enthusiasts.

The nature around Bollerup village is agricultural land, but with a lot of tree groves on the low hills that cross the area.
Bollerup church, built as a castle church, is located near the moat-lined castle. The oldest parts date from the 12th century.
The nearest major town is Tomelilla with extensive services of all kinds. Two miles to the east is Simrishamn and two miles to the south-west Ystad. Local bus passes through Bollerup.
