Vik

Here the stress flows off, in Vik, the charming old fishing village north of Simrishamn. Vik is located on a narrow strip of beach below the high sand hills, surrounded by orchards. Vik is the oldest of Österlen's seven fishing villages and fishing has been of great importance over the years.

Already in the early Stone Age, people lived here with fishing as their main food source, and the oldest fishing gear in the Nordic region has been found in Vik. A workshop for making stone axes - the Viking axes, which are now sought-after artefacts - also shows Vik's former importance.

The streets in Vik are small, consisting of lanes and alleys. A village street ran north-south through the fishing village (PipeworkBasque oil). When you stand at the harbour, you have an enchanting view to the north, the fabled mountain and also Sweden's southernmost national park: Stenshuvud. If the weather is clear, you can see the entire coastline all the way up to Åhus.

Prästens badkar is a unique geological formation located just south of Viks fiskeläge. There are about a hundred similar formations in Skåne, most of them in Österlen, but Prästens badkar is the largest, most beautiful and most easily accessible. There is no clear explanation as to how these funnel sinks were formed.

Vik has two golf courses, Deep valley and Lilla Vik and also restaurants, conference facilities and rooms. I Pipework About 2 kilometres north of Vik is the Sofiaskolan independent school, whose basic idea is derived from Waldorf education. Fruit orchards are typical of the eastern part of Österlen, and Vik also has top-class strawberry and tomato orchards. It is here that the rocky coast turns into a sandy beach. North of Vik, the popular beach stretches out towards Stenshuvud National Park.

The buildings vary and there is a balance between old and new. By the harbour, the houses are older and the streets are sometimes winding and narrow. To the west of the road, the housing is newly built and the architecture is modern. The nearest towns with services such as schools, retirement homes and shops are Kivik, seven kilometres to the north and Simrishamn six kilometres to the south. The hiking trail goes past.
