At the top of Tomelilla municipality's border with Kristianstad municipality, in the northern Albo district, lies the picturesque little village of Agusa along the road between Alunbruket in Andrarum and Hörröd. The village is located high and scenic on Linderödsåsen in mixed forest with large elements of deciduous forest. Animal and plant life in the deciduous forest is rich.
Agusa is a well-known name in hiking circles. The village is the starting and ending point of the fourteen-mile Ås to Ås trail between Åstorp and Agusa. This hiking trail is part of the popular Skåneleden trail. The village lies on top of the Jären or Hörrödsåsen ridge, which runs along the Linderödsåsen horst. The Agusabäcken stream flows beside the village and forms the border between Albo and Gärds härad.
During the heyday of the Alum Mill, the village and its surroundings were part of the so-called Verkalinjen, where the alum mill collected a lot of wood for its boilers. Towards the end of the 19th century, 188 people lived in the village, but today there are considerably fewer.
Every year in July, the village association celebrates its gem, Agusastugan, with a grand, genuine family party. Agusa Cottage is a particularly well-preserved building from the early 1800s, which was taken over by the local community association in 1945. The cottage speaks volumes to all of us about how things once looked, how life could once be. Anna Mårtensson was born in the old smallholder home in 1873 and lived here until 1945 without making any significant changes.
Today, many of the houses are holiday homes. Half-timbered houses, often with thatched or reed roofs, are common.
The nearest major town is Brösarp with school, childcare, shop, speciality shops, medical centre, dentist, guest house, pharmacy, church, gallery and sports facilities. It is nine kilometres from Brösarp to Agusa. It is one kilometre further to Degeberga. To Brösarp as well as to Degeberga there are buses from Tomelilla, Simrishamn and Kristianstad.
If you take the bus from Lund to Sjöbo, it is 27 kilometres to Agusa.
