Winner of four Oscars, the Golden Lion in Venice in 2023 and the Audience Award at the Stockholm Film Festival in 2023. Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite, The Lobster, Dogtooth) is back with a drama about the extraordinary life of Bella Baxter starring Emma Stone. The film also stars Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo and Margaret Qualley.
Raised from the dead by the brilliant and unconventional scientist Dr Godwin Baxter, Bella begins her life under his tutelage, eager to learn everything. In her deprivation and hunger for worldliness, Bella runs away with Duncan Wedderburn, a shrewd and dissolute lawyer, on a breathtaking adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her time, Bella's purpose becomes clear: to stand for equality and freedom.
The film is based on a novel by Alasdair Gray and the screenplay is written by Tony McNamara, which will be the second time that Lanthimos and McNamara have collaborated with each other (The Favourite).
